So, around this time of the month, I get discouraged from writing because I decided I wanted to use my platform to teach others how to crochet. And I have been severely neglecting that! Part of the reason is that I tend not to write down the patterns I create, so it puts extra work for me. Secondly, I never remember how to create the same thing twice and again I do not write it down. When I do its vague notes on a post it with no title. Which I end up throwing away after a while. Anyways today I'll show you how to make a simple crochet head band.
YOU will NEED:
Light weight yarn
Crochet hook 2.5mm
Wired headband about 1/8th inch wide. But you can use any size, please remember to adjust to crochet width to size of headband.
Instructions headband:
Chain 5 using your 2.5mm crochet hook
Row 1: In the second loop from the hook make a half double crochet. Half double crochet remaining stitches. Chain and turn (4)
Row 2-28: continue making half double crochets and turning till the last row. Do not cut! This will depend on the size of your headband, if it is longer or shorter. Stretch out your crochet strip till it is all stretched out and measure it on your blank headband. It should fit perfect from top to tip. If your strip is longer or shorter than the headband, Adjust the length by adding or subtracting rows. Once at the right length cut a long tail, you will need to sew the headband shut.
Sewing:
Sandwich the short end in half and whip stitch the headband shut. I like to make sure that the sides match up with each other, so the stitches stay perpendicular. Sew all the way to the end and tie a knot when you reach the other side. Hide the thread in between the headband and the crochet strip. You now have a crochet headband that can be used for your costumes.
Below are some Ideas on how to decorate them. Make antennas and other shapes using a similar method to the headband.
