We all hate failed cons. Last weekend I attended A convention that promised traction and sales. Only for the organizers to bail and scam young and new artist by charging a hefty booth fee with little to no sales. The halls were empty and sad any many artist left the con early. This has impacted many artist and this is my video to bring awareness. ✨This video was taken at Anime Market Sacramento Friday at 1pm. As you can see many artist did not show up the first day.#animemarketsacramento

1) Is it a new event?
As a small creator I do like to support new events. I’ve been to many small and local event before, there are always risks of not making your money back. Though it is a good chance to make connections and network with other artist. As a new artist I would AVOID an event that is just starting. They cannot promise you foot traffic when it’s their first time organizing.

2) Lack of Advertising!
Talk to your local artist group and see if they have heard about the event. Search online to see if they have more information. Are there local flyers in your area advertising? Do they have a website and or social media? What is their following? All these things matter when determining if an event is worth it. If they have no physical or online presence it’s probably not worth participating.

3) Location!
Where is this event located? Are they indoors or outdoors? Is the city popular with conventions and is there foot traffic in the area? Are they charging an entrance fee? How much are they charging? For a small or local con, entrance fees can very from free to about $15 is what I would feel comfortable with. $15 is pushing it: Anything higher than that for a first time con shouldn’t be trusted. People want to support local and when they are charging expensive entrance fees people will most likely avoid coming.

4) Research!
It takes less than a minute to look up the organizers information online. See if people are talking about the event on social media. Has the organizers done other events or collaborated with other organizers? Sites like Reddit has useful information on personal experiences with said organizers. I wish I would have checked sooner before booking.

I wrote a new recipe. It’s been more than a year since my last one. 🙏🏻 I’m hoping to write more this coming year.
