Book Review: Love Letters and Disillusion by Abraham Garcia

 I got the chance to read Abraham Garcia's second published poetry book called Love Letters and Disillusion. A more intimate selection of poems showcasing the author's expression of love in various forms to being disillusioned by twisted love. Love is a battle. A battle worth fighting and a battle worth losing. They are both done in love. Letting go of a love so they can heal and holding on to others that heal you. The right kind of love can heal many wounds. A poem that spoke to me was “Gratitude” I felt this connection that I’ve experienced myself. To feel grateful towards another person that has impacted your life. There are no bitter feelings but gratitude for the other person.

You can’t compare Love Letters and Dissolution to Abraham's previous work. They are both uniquely and thoughtfully written expressions of love. His writing has improved since his last work and I was fond of the Spanish translation of Love Letters and Disillusion. They don't call it a romantic language for no reason. In all seriousness I feel the Spanish was able to capture a feeling that could only be felt as a duo reader. I could just be biased but here are some quotes I pulled from the book that felt sweet.

“Tu aura es brillante como una estrella resplandeciente entre luces que se apagan, 

Hija de la luna que encuentra consuelo en el espejo de los ojos del cielo oscuro.”-Multidimensional

Which is translated to, “Your aura is bright like a shining star among dimming lights, Moon child that finds comfort in the mirror of the dark sky’s eyes.” For me it feels much more romantically said in Spanish. The closest way I can explain it would be, “Your aura is brilliant like a star shining between lights that dim, Daughter of the moon that finds comfort in the mirror of the dark sky’s eyes.” I may be biased but there's a rhythm to it. Another one I enjoyed was,

“Eres mi belleza, mi princesa, la que siempre está allí.”-Gratitude

Which translates to, “ You are my beauty, my princess, the one who’s always near.” Here are a few more I enjoyed,

“But in this life, our hearts cry, because we are not what either of us needs.”-Tattoo

“You will never be able to forget the days when you felt the wind carry you away.”- You Will Never Be

“Now I spend my days alone, and the wind carries me to the sea. There, I renew myself and let go”- Rebirth
